A man allegedly tortured a woman with an ax handle and raped her during a six-hour period, sending her to a hospital for broken bones and a punctured lung, police said.
The 45-year-old man faces attempted homicide, rape, and aggravated assault charges for the alleged attack that began around 6 p.m. at his home.
State police allege the man assaulted the 47-year-old woman with an ax handle then raped her in a bedroom of his home.
Police allege he taunted the woman during the physical assault and threatened to kill her.
"How do you want it?" police said he asked the victim. "Do you want to be awake so you can see it coming or do you want to be asleep so it can be a surprise?"
At one point, police said, the woman escaped from the home, only to be dragged back inside by him.
Police were called to the scene, but he fled.
The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment for her injuries. Police said she suffered fractures to both bones in her lower left leg and a left forearm bone and a puncture of her right lung.
The next morning the man returned to his home, where state police arrested him.
He was arraigned by a district judge and sent to the county jail in lieu of posting $250,000 bond. |
