A man faces at least one to two years in a state prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at a motel and videotaping the attack.
The 21-year-old pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, statutory sexual assault, child pornography, unlawful contact with a minor, and corruption of minors.
He pleaded no contest to a charge of sexual assault.
He will be sentenced within 90 days, following a Megan's Law evaluation.
The prosecutor said the man, a friend of the victim's family, picked up the girl at school and took her to a motel last year.
Inside a room, he set up a video camera then engaged the child in sex acts. Although he told police that the girl consented to the acts, a child of 13 cannot give legal consent.
“He told [the victim] not to tell anyone about what he did,” the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor said the man was aware that the girl was underage.
“She told the defendant numerous times that she was 13 and, in fact, he had attended her 13th birthday party,” the prosecutor said.
The girl did not report the assault for several months. Police then questioned the man, and he admitted to the crime and turned over the videotape, the prosecutor said.
The man did not testify during the brief guilty plea hearing. The girl and her mother attended the hearing but told the judge that they did not wish to make a statement.
As a convicted sex offender, the man will have to register his address with the state police under Megan's law after he's released from prison.
If a state board determines that he's a sexually violent predator, his neighbors will be notified each time he moves into a new community. |
