A 22-year-old man working as a camp counselor has been charged with having sexual contact with three teenage girls attending the camp.
He was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, indecent assault and corruption of minors in connection with an incident involving a 15-year-old girl and two counts of corruption of minors involving two 16-year-olds at a college, police said.
A college spokesman said the man was working as a chaperone/resident assistant at an emergency medical technician-paramedic camp for boys and girls in grades nine through 12. The man attended the college last spring, and a background-clearance check was conducted on him before he was hired, the spokesman said.
The man’s duties included making sure that the boys and girls living in an apartment building near the college followed the camp’s rules, including being in their rooms by a 10:30 p.m. curfew.
According to the criminal complaint, the man allowed three girls to enter his apartment about 1:30 a.m. to watch TV and use his computer. He is alleged to have started a game of spin the bottle in which he kissed each of the girls and attempted to fondle one of them, police said. When that girl refused his advances, all three left, and he told them he would keep his door unlocked if any wished to return, according to police.
One did return and got into bed with him, according to police. Another arrived later and also got into his bed. Police said the man had sex with both girls, the 15-year-old and one of the 16-year-olds.
Because 16 is the legal age for consensual sex, the man was charged only with corruption of minors involving the 16-year-olds.
Another chaperone looking for the girls found them at 4:30 a.m. in the man’s room, police said. The other chaperone notified police. |
